Circle dance from Australia
(Australian Country Dance Society)

Large circle - men with partners on right hand side    

32bar jig, reel or polka                


A1: 4 steps into the centre/4 steps out - repeat

A2: Right Hand turn partner (8steps) -
       Left Hand turn partner (8steps)

B1: Do-si-do partner passing right shoulder (8 steps) -
      Repeat passing left shoulder (8 steps)

B2: Balance partner
     (holding two hands, together apart,   together apart) -
      Walk past partner to meet new partner,
      Swing new partner

Cheviot Rant

A dance from Northeast England
(Traditional)

Sicilian Circle (circle of couples facing couple)
Partner is next to you, opposite is directly in front of you

32 bar polka

A1: right hand to opposite, balance together and away,
      then change places. 
      Left hand to partner, balance together and away,
      Then change places

A2: repeat A1 - opposite then partner, to return to original
      Place.

B1: Right hand star (8steps), left hand star (8steps)

B2: 4 steps toward opposite couple and 4 steps back
      One couple makes an arch and the couples pass on to
      New couples

Cumberland Reel

A dance from Northwest England
(Traditional)

Longways set of 4 couples - men on one side ladies on the other.  Top couple (1st couple) nearest to the music

32 bar reel

A1: Couples 1 and 2 right hand star
      Couples 3 and 4 Right hand star
      1 and 2, 3 and 4 left hand stars

A2: Top couple gallop down the middle of the set (8 steps)
       Top couple gallop back to the top (8 steps)

B1:  Top couple turn away from each other
       and lead a single cast.  At the bottom they make an arch
       other couple come up through the arch

B2: Everbody swing partner

Longways set of 4 couples (as above)

32 bar hornpipe

A1: 1st couple visit 2nd Woman (4 steps forward 4 steps back)
       1st couple visit 2nd man (4 forward 4 back)

A2: 1st couple dance down the middle
      (8 steps down 8 steps back)

B1: All couples cross over with partner
      (4 steps to cross, 4 steps to turn, repeat back to place)

B2: 1st couple swing to bottom, everybody swings partner

A Dance from Yorkshire
(Traditional)

Square of 4 couples.  Couples facing the music and with their backs to the music are head couples.  Others are side couples

32 bar polka

A1: Circle left (8 steps) Circle Right (8 steps)

A2: Head couples change places (4 steps)
      Couple with their back to the music making an arch
      Side couples change (4 steps)
      Couple to the right of the music making the arch
      Head couples change back to place
      Side couples change back to place

B1: Grand chain. 
      Face partner, give right hand and pass, left hand to next
      Continue around the set back to place

B2: Swing partners

The Flying Shuttle

A dance about industrial weaving processes

Square of 4 couples. 1st couple has backs to the music, couples numbered anti-clockwise.

32 bar jig

A1: 1st couple dances around the outside of the set
      (anti-clockwise)

A2: all other couples make arches (in a horse-shoe shape)
       1st couple pass through the middle arch, turn away from each other and weave in and out of the arches on their side back to place

B1:  Turn partner with right hand (8 steps)
       Turn corner with left hand (8 steps)
       (Corner is person on you other side)

B2: Balance with partner (in, out, in ,out)
      Swing partner

Repeat with a 2,3,4 taking turns at parts A1 and A2

Nottingham Swing

A dance from the midlands of England

Longways set for as many as will. 
Starting from the top, divide into sub groups of 2 couples. 
The couple nearest the music is the 1st couple and the couple further away from the music is the 2nd couple

16 bar hornpipe

A1: 1st man turns 2nd woman with right hand (8steps)
      1st woman turns 2nd man with right hand (8 steps)

B1: 1st couple holding two hands,
      chasses step down the middle and back
      (2 steps down, 2 steps back)
      1st couple cast out around 2nd couple to progress
       Everybody swing partner

Repeat with new couples. 
When couples reach either end of the set, the stand out for one time through the dance and return as the opposite number.  For example when a no. 2 couple reach the top of the set, they will stand out for a turn of the dance and return as a no 1 couple.
